Policy
Social media is an effective way of communicating with others – both on a personal and professional level. It refers – but is not limited – to websites, blogs, forums, social networking sites (e.g. Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn), and media sharing sites (e.g. YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, Pinterest).
FDI uses social media to connect with its members and the public and encourages dentists and all oral health professionals, as well as those who have an interest in the organization’s work, to be mindful of the information they share online related to FDI.
This policy provides guidance for use of social media when referencing FDI and for content posted on FDI’s social media accounts. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact the FDI communications team in Geneva at communications@fdiworldental.org.
As the principal representative body for more than 1 million dentists worldwide, FDI encourages responsible use of social media platforms to communicate views on dental and oral health topics in a respectful way.
FDI promotes its projects, partnerships, activities and events on social media, as well as relevant initiatives that are in line with FDI’s goals and vision to lead the world to optimal oral health.
FDI does not promote commercial products or services on social media, nor events outside of FDI’s partnerships.
FDI content cannot be reproduced on social media without appropriate permission to make use of the information. Copyright and intellectual property rights must always be respected, with proper credit given to FDI when used as the source of information.
The FDI logo is registered to the organization and must not be used without permission. The logo cannot be modified nor used in any way that may imply endorsement or recognition of a product, brand, event or other activity without written approval of FDI.
FDI reserves the right to remove tags, posts or comments from its social media accounts that are found inappropriate, as well as report or block social media accounts that repeatedly tag FDI intending to harm the organization’s reputation.
FDI recommends that the organization’s social media accounts be kept separate from staff’s personal accounts, through which content shared represents their own opinion and not that of FDI.
If FDI staff or members publish content related to the work or subjects associated with the organization, a disclaimer should be used (e.g. The postings on this site are my own and do not represent FDI’s views or positions).
